What is "Canberra Scotties"?
Canberra Scotties is a regional social and support group for Scottish Terriers (and a few select Westies) and those humans who own or love them. We like to show off our beautiful dogs, rather than show them. We act as an information group for each other and provide an opportunity for our dogs, most of whom are single Scotties, to socialise with others of their breed. We are not an incorporated group, so there is no formal committee and anyone can organise or attend events. In its simplest form, the group is an email list, which is administered by Eileen and Jan. There is a Contact list available to members. Who are we? There are currently about 100 names on our list, mostly Canberra region residents. Some are interstate, but have connections to people or dogs here. They are on the list because they like:
What do we do? We hold semi-regular get-togethers, usually meeting at the small park next to the Yacht Club, in Alexandrina Drive. There we commandeer a table or two, bring some food for humans (and sometimes dogs) to share, let the dogs play and greet each other and chat with other Scottie people. Sometimes there is an event to arrange, or a "swap sale" of Scottie-themed things. Some folk come to have a "Scottie fix" or they may be "Scottie-ticipating" and just want to meet some. We also participate in events such as the Dogs' Day Out, at which we often have a stall, and in several highland gatherings, where there is much demand for a Scottie presence. The proud Diehards love walking in the parade to the skirl of the pipes, and of course the little devils love the attention! Details can be found on our Blog or Events page. Some members arrange smaller outings with those who live close, or whose dogs get along especially well. It's all up to you. We also support Scottie rescue (see our Rescue page or click on this link ) How can someone join? Simply send an email ([email protected]) or ring us (full details on the Contacts page), letting us know your dog's details - and yours of course! - and someone will contact you. Then we'll add you to the email list, welcome you with a group email and send you a copy of the Contact List so that you can connect with people in your area. You may wish to make contact with someone in your suburb who wants to share dogwalking, transport or minding. We are always happy to chat to people about Scotties and to share local knowledge. |
